Energy Engineer Positions

Job Description

We are expanding our practice and are seeking two Energy Engineers with either
three-to-six-years Energy Engineering experience or over-six-years of Energy Engineering experience. A Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation is preferred for both positions.


Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Specify, budget, and manage energy engineering project work
  • Lead and participate in project teams on assignments designed to reduce energy use and demand
  • Perform comprehensive energy audits to identify and prioritize Energy Conservation Measures; provide cost analysis of ECMs and other energy audit data emphasizing our clients’ return on investment
  • Review and optimize of building control systems and EMS performance
  • Analyze mechanical systems
  • Execute commissioning assignments
  • Review construction documents
  • Participate in a diverse range of supply and demand-side consulting projects
  • Develop written reports that convey technical information in narrative form
  • Interact with client staff and client principals

Required Skills

Senior Energy Engineer - minimum six years Energy Engineering experience

Energy Engineer - three to six years Energy Engineering experience

Technical Skills:

  • 4 year engineering degree (required) - mechanical engineering degree preferred; industrial and electrical engineering degrees will be considered - BS required; MS preferred
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Credentials
  • Understand and apply mechanical engineering principles for HVAC applications
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose problems identified during energy audits
  • Analysis of field data and energy consumption data
  • Thorough understanding of utility rates and utility billing protocols
  • Thorough understanding of construction and drawings and construction specifications


Communications Skills: The position requires excellent written and oral abilities to:

  • Write technical and non-technical reports
  • Maintain relationships with clients
  • Give client presentations
  • Write proposals

Business Skills:

  • Manage projects and budgets
  • Self-motivated and able to work in teams
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Interest to succeed in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Provide high level client service and direction

Desirable Credentials/Skills:

  • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Knowledge of/experience in total building commissioning
  • Knowledge of/experience with LEED™
  • Experience with Energy Simulation Software such as Visual DOE or DOE 2.1E
